Apart from hairspray and rouge, they also apply more unusual attributes, like caps and hair pins belonging to traditional Zeeland dress; sheets worn as Roman togas; mud to cover people’s naked bodies; and fish, octopuses, crabs and lobsters in all sorts and sizes that serve as decoration. The combination of unusual aesthetics and obvious fun leads to such remarkable results that the people Rem photographed actually become famous – at least in Zeeland.
